Matt Meyer will present his participatory workshop “Drumming and Spirituality” on Sunday, September 28, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the church meeting room.
The workshop is a chance for people of all skill levels to participate in hands on rhythm-making. It includes instruction on basic technique as well as information on the origins of percussion instruments from around the world. Participants will also experience the spirituality of community music-making through stories, games, and discussions as well as look at how rhythm and music intersect with Unitarian Universalist values. Bring your own drum if you have one. For those who don’t, instruments will provided.
Meyer is an artist of percussion, knowledgeable and experienced in a variety of styles, including Latin-jazz, Brazilian, folk, funk, hip-hop, and pop. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and has studied in Cuba, Ghana, and Central America.
A love of music and a deep respect for its ability to stir and transform audiences is at the heart of Matt’s continuing devotion to understand more of the world’s cultures through the vocabulary of rhythm.
