When we think of witches, we may imagine scary images of pointy-hatted hags on broomsticks or wart- faced women stirring vile cauldrons. But there is a tradition of wise women, herbalists, and healers who practiced the craft long before they became demonized and persecuted by the patriarchal powers. Let’s take a look at the nature-based spirituality of our crafty ancestors and ancestresses, as well as current UU members who favor the sixth source of our Living Tradition, the earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
