Music Program

Music is a vital and active part of the life of Northshore UU Church.  Our goal is to enhance the spirituality of the Sunday service as well as to provide creative opportunity for the musicians and would-be musicians in our midst.  The music program offers many options for those in the congregation who have an interest in making music with others.  It is a volunteer program and remains flexible, so that people can come and go as their life situations change.  Although this presents challenges at times it does work well and allows for individual needs and also fills the musical needs of the church.

During the time of the pandemic we’ve needed to make significant changes to our program but we have persisted and continued to offer opportunities for music making and for providing music for the Sunday services.  In our current multi-platform setting we will continue to pre-record our choral music while welcoming instrumentalists and soloists to provide music live in our beautiful, resonant sanctuary.  Our music program will remain active and will evolve along with changing conditions.

The adult Singing Group is a mainstay of our program.  This group is open to anyone who can carry a tune and has the desire to sing.   Singing Group affords singers a chance to learn vocal production techniques, learn new repertoire, sing in Sunday services (currently by pre-recording), and to be a part of a close knit community of singers. Individuals are encouraged to expand their own abilities with options for solos and small groups.  Our rehearsal schedule is currently evolving as we adapt to local, current Covid activity.  New members are heartily welcomed at any time.

Our Handbell Choir is a very special and much anticipated addition to services throughout the year.  Unfortunately during this pandemic year we have not been able to meet, but we look forward to coming together again soon.  Handbell Choir is open to anyone willing to come to rehearsals and engage in the fine art of creation of an overarching beauty built on individual tones.  The ability to read music is very helpful.  Anyone interested in Handbell Choir may contact Judy Putnam, judithputnam@comcast.net.

Guest Soloists.  Throughout the church year we routinely enjoy the special talents of guest soloists as a part of our Sunday morning services.  We have been delighted by music of piano, drums, trumpet, clarinet, flute, cello, violin, as well as vocal soloists and small groups.
