Most of our church’s historical records are housed at the Danvers Archival Center, Peabody Institute Library, Danvers. There, you will also find general information about the history of Danvers.

You will also find church records at the Peabody Historical Society, and you will want to visit the Peabody Institute Library in Peabody for general information on the history of Peabody.*

The church records you will find, especially at the Danvers Archival Center, include founding documents and by-laws; lists of standing committee members, other committee members, and church members; records of specific committees (Ladies Association, Young People’s Religious Union); meeting reports and treasurer’s reports; newspaper articles, church fliers, and advertisements for events; programs of service and advertisements for church anniversaries, building dedications, and minister installations; photographs and drawings; architectural drawings (Community Church, Danvers); correspondence; and recent (since 1966) talks given at NSUU about church history.

*Yes, having the public libraries in Danvers and Peabody both named “Peabody Institute Library” is confusing. You’ll have to take it up with George Peabody (1795-1859) whose money funded both—and many other places in the U.S. and Great Britain that benefited from his generosity.
